Our Campaign...

The Road Sense campaign represents the interests of all the communities that would be affected by the proposed route for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Road (AWPR) through Milltimber Brae combined with the Netherley Fast–link.

On 1 December 2005 Tavish Scott, the Scottish Executive transport minister, made the surprising announcement that the Aberdeen WPR would follow a route that was not one of the original five routes that went out for public consultation in Spring 2005 (AWPR Consultation). The proposed new route combines elements of the original Milltimber Brae route with the addition of an 8 mile long Netherley spur road connecting the AWPR to the A90 at Stonehaven (AWPR Map 1 December 2005).

A 'corridor map' was published on 30 January 2006 outlining a broad area - 3 miles wide in parts - where the AWPR route might go. (AWPR Corridor Map 30 January 2006)

A 'route corridor option' was published on 14 March 2006 detailing seven route options being investigated by the AWPR team. However, the final route chosen might be an altogether different route! (AWPR Route Corridor Map 14 March 2006)

Tavish Scott announced the 'preferred line' of the AWPR on 2 May 2006. This latest announcement is just another ‘line’ on a map, with little engineering or environmental surveys. The route could still go anywhere. The battle goes on. Click here for the official statement and here for the link to the latest map.
